Free commission tracker spreadsheet template
4 min read
Before there was an app for this, there was a spreadsheet — and a good one still beats a notebook. Here's a free Excel template that logs your deals and computes each one from your pay plan: front and back percentages, the pack, and a mini floor. Download it, set your rates once, and log away.
Free download — no email required
Excel format (.xlsx), works in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers. Formulas are pre-filled for 200 deals.

| Tab | What it does |
|---|---|
| Pay Plan | Set your front %, back %, pack and mini once — every deal uses them |
| Deal Log | One row per deal: date, stock #, new/used, credit, front & back gross. Commission columns compute themselves |
| Summary | Month-to-date units, front commission, back commission and grand total |
How to use it
- Open the Pay Plan tab and enter your percentages, pack and mini from your written pay plan.
- When a deal closes, add a row on the Deal Log tab — the commission columns fill in automatically.
- Use 1 for a full deal and 0.5 for a split in the Credit column.
- Check the Summary tab any time for your month-to-date number, and reconcile against your check on payday.
- Start a fresh copy each month so last month's numbers stay frozen.
Where spreadsheets break
A template like this handles a simple pay plan fine. The cracks show when your plan gets real:
- Tiered rates — the formula can't see your running unit count, so you end up editing rates mid-month.
- Retroactive tiers — re-pricing January's deals because of a deal on the 28th is a manual rebuild.
- Bonuses and spiffs — they live outside the deal rows and are easy to forget.
- Your phone — logging a deal from the lot means “I'll add it tonight,” and tonight becomes Sunday.
- One wrong edit — drag a formula one cell too far and the whole month is quietly wrong.
That's the gap CommissionDesk fills: the same log idea, but tiers, minis, splits, bonuses and retro re-pricing apply themselves, and your month-to-date total is live on your phone. The free calculator covers single deals; the free plan covers 8 deals a month, forever.
